Lake Nakuru National Park is a protected area of approximately 188 km², located in the Great Rift Valley in Kenya, about 160 km northwest (approximately 3–4 hours’ drive) of Nairobi. It is world-famous for its enormous flamingo colonies, which at times transform the lakeshore into a sea of pink, as well as being one of the most important rhino sanctuaries in East Africa.
The park is home to over 150 white and black rhinos, which live here under strict protection. Over 450 bird species are native to the area, including pelicans, fish eagles, and the famous lesser and greater flamingos. In addition, Lake Nakuru National Park offers the chance to observe other wildlife species such as Rothschild’s giraffes, lions, leopards, buffalo, zebras, and hippos. There are no elephants in the park. Several viewpoints offer spectacular panoramic views over the lake.
