GOVERNORS‘ CAMP
Governors’ Camp has been welcoming guests since 1972. With its exceptional comfort, outstanding service, and superb cuisine, it was the first safari camp in Africa to set the standard for luxury in the bush. By preserving these qualities as tradition, Governors’ Camp has built an enviable reputation over the years, continuously refining and improving the guest experience. Special care has been taken to maintain the authentic atmosphere that once inspired Hemingway and other legendary adventurers. Governors’ Camp still occupies its original location—a site that during colonial times was exclusively reserved for the Governors of Kenya and their royal guests.
With its 37 tents nestled among trees along the Mara River, Governors’ Camp offers spectacular views across the vast plains of the Masai Mara. The camp is regularly visited by returning guests who appreciate the personal touch and family-run feel that defines the experience.
All guest facilities are housed in large, luxurious safari tents to preserve the authentic, traditional safari atmosphere. Each guest tent features an en-suite bathroom with shower and basin, hot and cold running water, and a flush toilet. Gas and paraffin lamps provide atmospheric, period-appropriate lighting throughout the camp.
The restaurant tent, campfire area, and bar tent form the heart of camp life. At reception, guests will find a small gallery showcasing paintings and artwork by local artists, as well as a souvenir shop. Breakfast and lunch are served in the open air, while dinner brings guests together in the restaurant tent for a multi-course menu with a choice of main courses. The nightly campfire is as much a tradition as the tea or coffee delivered to your tent each morning.
