MOMBASA CITY TOUR
Mombasa City Tour & Haller Park
You will be picked up from your hotel at around 8:00 AM to start your Mombasa tour.
Mombasa is a coral island and the second-largest city in Kenya after Nairobi. It is connected to the north by a bridge and to the south by a ferry. Mombasa has the largest and busiest port in East and Central Africa.
You will visit the Akamba Woodcarvers’ School, one of the largest woodcarving centers and markets in Kenya.
Next, see the “Tusks” (Elephant Tusks) spanning Moi Avenue. They were erected in 1952 in memory of King George of England during the British colonial period, at a time when Princess Elizabeth was in Kenya.
You will also see Fort Jesus, built by the Portuguese in 1593, mainly for protection and to control the port of Mombasa.
Explore the Old Town, walking along narrow streets to the old harbor, where you will see Arabian boats and one of the oldest Mahindry mosques. Continue to the market to learn about spices, exotic fruits, and vegetables.
After lunch, visit Haller Park, a private sanctuary home to buffalo, eland, giraffes, waterbucks, oryx, snakes, crocodiles, hippos, tortoises, and many bird species. Watch the crocodiles and hippos being fed. Return to your hotel at around 5:00 PM.
